A GIF compressor reduces the number of bytes in an animated GIF. VisualFormat optimizes changed frame regions when safe, reduces the color palette when needed, and optionally scales down the animation. It shows actual file sizes and retains the original if an attempt would make it larger.

Start with 128 colors at the original size. For stronger compression, choose fewer colors or a smaller output percentage.
Check the actual percentage saved and both animated previews. Download the compressed GIF, or keep the original if it was already smaller.

Choose a GIF, select a maximum color count and optional smaller scale, then select Compress GIF. Compare the before-and-after animations and file sizes before downloading.
Reducing colors or dimensions can lose visual detail. The tool also optimizes unchanged regions in opaque frames without removing animation frames. It does not promise lossless output or a fixed compression percentage.
Some GIFs are already efficiently encoded. Rebuilding frames can outweigh color or dimension savings. If the attempted output is not smaller, VisualFormat keeps the original byte-for-byte and clearly says the selected changes were not applied. Try fewer colors or a smaller scale.
You can try fewer colors and smaller dimensions, then inspect the actual output size. This version does not offer an exact byte-size target or guarantee that every GIF can reach a particular size.
No frames are removed. Frame order, encoded delays, total encoded duration, and the original loop setting are preserved. Very short delays can play differently between browsers. Transparent areas remain transparent.
Yes. GIF decoding and encoding run locally in your browser, without AI or paid services. Files and filenames are not uploaded. Input limits are 20 MB, 500 frames, 4,096 pixels per dimension, and 40 million full-frame pixels; output is capped at 80 MB.
