Privacy Policy

Your GIF is processed on your device. It is not uploaded to VisualFormat.
Your files
When you choose a GIF, your browser reads it into memory. Cropping, resizing, compression, frame extraction, PNG encoding, and ZIP packaging run in local Web Workers using JavaScript, without AI services. We do not upload your file or its contents. Filenames and previews are masked in session recordings and are never included in our tool-event parameters. We do not store your files in a database, browser storage, or an account.
The current file and output remain in browser memory while the page is open. Replacing or removing the file releases the associated preview URLs. Processing workers are terminated when the job completes, fails, or is cancelled. Closing the page releases the remaining browser resources. Downloaded files remain wherever you save them.
Website delivery
Your browser requests website pages, scripts, the processing engine, and the example GIF from Cloudflare, our hosting provider. These requests reveal standard connection data such as your IP address, browser information, requested URL, and request time. Hosting may retain technical access logs under its own policies. This is separate from your local GIF processing.
Optional analytics and session recordings
We ask before loading Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, or our self-hosted Plausible instance at plausible.shipsolo.io. Choosing “No thanks” leaves all three unloaded and does not affect any tool. These services are enabled only on our production domain, visualformat.tools.
Google Analytics 4: after consent, Google can collect page views, device and browser information, approximate location, traffic sources, and tool events such as processing started, succeeded, failed, and download clicked. Tool events can include dimensions, frame count, processing duration, and an enumerated error code. They do not include file data or filenames. Google signals and advertising personalization are disabled. Automatic form and download-link measurements are disabled.
Microsoft Clarity: after consent, Microsoft can collect clicks, scrolling, device information, heatmaps, and masked session recordings to help us understand usability. We enable strict content masking and explicitly mask every tool workspace, including filenames and GIF previews. Input values are masked. We do not send custom visitor identifiers or enable advertising storage. See Clarity masking and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Plausible: after consent, our self-hosted instance collects aggregate page visits, referral sources, approximate location, and browser/device statistics. We use the instance-specific script and disable automatic form, outbound-link, and download-link measurements. Our manual page views omit URL queries and fragments. Tool events tell us which tool is used, whether the input is our example or a local file, file-reading and processing outcomes, cancellation, and download clicks. Event properties include coarse file-size, frame-count and processing-time ranges, general error codes, output type, and compression-result ranges. They never include file data, filenames, file paths, or visitor identifiers. This integration does not set Plausible tracking cookies.
Analytics providers receive standard network data when your browser contacts them, including your IP address and browser information. Provider retention and processing practices apply; see Google’s Privacy Policy. Our self-hosted Plausible data is handled on the infrastructure behind plausible.shipsolo.io, rather than Plausible’s managed hosting.
Cookies and local storage
We store your choice in visualformat-analytics and its notice version in visualformat-analytics-version in local storage. After you opt in, Google Analytics may set _ga cookies and Clarity may set _clck and _clsk cookies. We do not use these integrations for personalized advertising.
Reset your choice below to stop future analytics, clear our preference and accessible first-party analytics cookies, and reload the page. You can then decline. This does not erase previously collected records or cookies on other domains. You can also clear site data in your browser.
Third-party software
The GIF engine is served from our own site. We do not load file-processing code from a third-party CDN at runtime. See our open-source acknowledgements.
Changes to this policy
This page will be updated if our data practices change. A change to the scope of optional analytics will require a new consent choice.
